Since 1987, the Arts Council of Indianapolis has been working to build central Indiana through the arts. By serving as a champion and advocate for local artists and arts organizations, the Arts Council’s mission is implemented each year by granting the city’s arts-related funds, participating in and leading community initiatives, reaching out to new and established audiences, elevating the arts community through increased visibility and programming, and convening groups and encouraging collaborations.

The Arts Council of Indianapolis is a not-for-profit service agency providing public and private grants, marketing, technical assistance, and other services to the community.  Our mission is to advance and promote the arts through funding, advocacy, business, artistic and technical assistance, public and private support, and technology.

Funding from individuals, foundations and corporations help us continue to grow and expand our programs and services to meet the needs of artists and arts organizations and help build arts opportunities.

Specifically, your contributions help us:

  • Continue marketing arts organizations through projects such as citywide cultural event calendars, promotional campaigns, expanded web sites (www.indyarts.org, www.artscouncilofindianapolis.org, and www.publicartindianapolis.org), and other initiatives which provide information and tickets to hundreds of arts and cultural organizations and events
  • Expand marketing and services to individual artists through workshops, weekly e-mails of opportunities and programs, promotional campaigns such as "Be IndyPendent – Buy Local Art", and an expanded artist database with images and clips of artists’ work
  • Manage arts research and information projects, such as the young professionals audience development studies, economic impact study, marketing audience development profiles, and others
  • Continue the public art program, including additional citywide exhibitions, like the successful Otterness in Indianapolis and Julian Opie Signs, and the Great Ideas Competition.
  • Expand programming and arts marketing opportunities in conjunction with the Cultural Development Commission
  • And much more

These and other initiatives of the Arts Council require funding. We offer programs and services to arts organizations, artists, arts audiences, and the entire community at no charge. Your support through a contribution to the Arts Council of Indianapolis is critical to making these activities happen.
